Student Spotlight - Matt!

How old are you?
32

What do you do when you're off the pole?
Lately it's mostly been work travel (poling in those places when I can) and moving into my new apartment. I'm looking forward to a little downtime with video games/nerd stuff soon, though!

What brought you to the Pole Palace for the first time?
I'd wanted to try pole for a long time. After a decent chunk of post-breakup moping, I decided to take the leap and am super glad I did.

What is your favorite thing about the Pole Palace Community?
There's a ton of cheering at all times, but folks "get it" when you need to gripe (example: superman thigh-burn). Also, being one of the few guys poling I was really nervous at first but I've felt nothing but welcome since I started.

What is something/ some things that pole dance has given you?
Being able to express myself with motion and emotion in front of other people has been huge. It's something that was closed off to me growing up, so I'm very thankful for that. Obviously I'm thankful for all the wonderful people I've met, too.

What advice would you give someone coming to the studio for the first time?
It's going to be awkward at first. Then you'll get good at a few things, and then it'll be awkward again. Nobody starts off feeling natural at pole, so just focus on working hard and having fun; the rest will follow.
